When trying to change the light in a picture in PhotoShop, many people will try to fiddle with the light and contrast settings. This makes perfect sense but isn’t the best way to do it. It doesn’t give very realistic results and instead looks like you’ve taken the picture in really poor lighting, which off course isn’t what you were going for.
Here’s a super quick and fool proof method to turn your picture from day to night in no time.
The first thing you need to do is open your picture in PhotoShop. When you’ve done that, use this setting:
Once you’ve clicked Exposure, a new window will open on the right side of your work space next to the layers. You should see three adjustable bars: Exposure, Offset and Gamma Correction.
To make the picture darker, pull on the arrow on the Exposure bar. If you pull it right, the picture will get lighter. If you pull it left, it will get darker.
Lowering the exposure looks much more realistic than fiddling with light and contrast.
